Explanation of District 90's Intervention Program
District 90's intervention program tests all students three times a year. This data, PARCC results, and classroom performance is used when deciding which students will receive intervention services.
Students in the district are placed in three reading tiers.
- Tier I students are performing at or above grade level and will receive 90 minutes of reading instruction from the classroom teacher.
- Tier II students are performing below grade level and will receive 90 minutes of reading instruction from the classroom teacher and an additional 30 minutes of reading instruction from a reading interventionist aide or the classroom teacher.
- Tier III students are performing significantly below grade level. THese students will receive 90 minutes of reading instruction from the classroom teacher and an additional 30 minutes of reading instruction from an interventionist aide or classroom teacher. In addition, Tier III students receive an additional 30 minutes of reading instruction from the reading interventionist in a small group setting.
The same system is used for math.
Students that are on the border line of not meeting end of the year goals are monitored weekly and will be placed in Tier II if their forward progress drops off.
Both of these programs are designed to be fluid, with students moving in and out of the tiers as needed throughout the school year.
