Mr. Tim Brooks
Hello District 90 Families!
I'm Mr. Brooks and I'm the assistant band director for the District 90 band program! I'm so excited to be here in O'Fallon and participate in a program with a great tradition of excellence and a storied history of incredible bands!!
I grew up in a small college town in Eastern New Mexico called Portales. While growing up in a small town, I was fortunate to have a mother who was a piano professor at the local university, so I had a rich musical upbringing. I began learning to play the French Horn when I was in the fourth grade, and quickly fell in love with playing the instrument. In high school I knew that I wanted to continue being a musician, but I also knew that I wanted to share this love with as many people as I could. Therefore, being a music educator was an instant calling for me. I went to study music education in Las Cruces, New Mexico at New Mexico State University. There I had my first experiences teaching, working with high schools and middle schools in the area, as well as performance opportunities. While I was a student at New Mexico State University I also performed professionally with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, and I also played internationally with the El Paso Opera Company.
From there I traveled to Oklahoma to pursue my Master's Degree in Wind Conducting. While at Oklahoma State I performed with their top ensembles and attended national conventions. I also got the chance to write drill (the formations you see in marching band) for a half-time show with the Oklahoma State Marching Band.
After I finished my degree at Oklahoma State I was fortunate to find a job teaching band to 6-12th graders in a suburb of Oklahoma City called Yukon. There I had wonderful experiences with a large band program, and I got to teach every level of band, from beginning band all the way to seniors in high school! While working at Yukon I married my wife Angela, who at the time was finishing her medical degree at the University of Oklahoma. We recently moved to the St. Louis area because she matched for her residency in anesthesia at Washington University.
We currently live in St. Louis with our corgi Neville Longbottom (who has a longbottom). In my freetime I enjoy playing video games and going on hikes. My wife and I also love to travel and to eat crazy foods we've never had before!
