July 23, 2019
Dear Evans Families,
I would like to welcome all new and returning families to LaVerna Evans Elementary School for the upcoming 2019-20 school year. I hope this summer was an opportunity to enjoy some time off and accomplish some long and short term goals for both families and students. The staff at Evans continues their work to provide all of our families with an excellent educational experience. Several of our staff members again had the opportunity to attend the Directions Conference at the Regency Center in O’Fallon, Illinois, which featured training from nationally renowned educational speakers. Our teachers continue working to provide an updated Common Core Curriculum in all areas of study, as this process is ongoing and fluid. This year the district approved a new reading curriculum for grades K-2. We will enter year 5 of our technology refresh, which includes 10-15 ipads in each classroom and we have 4 mobile Chrome Book labs. We continue to integrate technology into our student learning with many innovative ideas that are both student and teacher led. Our PTO continues to provide support and resources to our classrooms (Scholastic News and Chrome Books) which enhance the overall experience of our students. We welcome all parents, students, and staff to be a part of our awesome upcoming year at Evans School.
I look forward to our students and families returning to school and the opportunity to continue working with our outstanding Evans School community. I very much appreciate your efforts to partner with us to continue our rich tradition of educational excellence at Evans School.
Additional Programs at Evans School

- 5th Grade Band in the morning (located at the junior high)

School Wide Expectations- PBIS
We have adopted a “Super Hero” theme the 2019-20 school year for our PBIS program. Again, we will utilize School Wide Expectations in our Character Education Program to teach and manage the expected behaviors. These expectations are a part of a program known as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We will focus on rewarding positive behavior and making good choices at school. We hope you will join us in working with our students to achieve this goal. In addition, you will get communication from classroom teachers on “Dojo” and from the Evans office via e-mail and Twitter.
Class lists will be posted on the windows at the front of Evans school on Thursday, August 8 at 3:30 pm. Please see the agenda attached to this letter for Open House, scheduled for Monday, August 12 from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of your students and their education. Working Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM). Good luck and have a great school year!
Ryan Keller, Principal
