  • Principal's Message

Welcome to Hinchcliffe Elementary School!  I am glad you will be a part of our school family, and I look forward to serving you.

I am currently in my 29th year in education, and this is my 17th year at Hinchcliffe School. I attended Hinchcliffe when the school opened in 1971, and my mom taught at Hinchcliffe for 30 years!  I am very blessed to be a part of this school and community.  I have two boys, Jack and Kevin.  Jack is 22 years old and just graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis, and Kevin is 21 and currently attends SIU-E as a computer science major.

Some of my educational beliefs include: I believe in order for kids to be treated fairly, there are times they must be treated differently. I also believe all kids can learn, when given the right tools, and I believe first impressions are lasting impressions. I am fortunate to be able to work with staff members that support these beliefs, and that we can work together to achieve great things for the students of Hinchcliffe.

Hinchcliffe School is home to 60 teachers and staff members, and our building provides a warm and nurturing environment that makes this atmosphere so unique and rewarding!  As a building administrator, I encourage you to take an active role in your child's learning at school. There are many ways that you can be involved and show your support- either at school or at home. If you are looking for ways to be involved, please let us know. We are always glad to include parents in activities that will help children to maximize their learning potential.

In addition to our regular education classrooms, we also added two Pre-K classrooms in the Fall of 2017.  Our current building enrollment hovers around 420 students.  Services available to all students at Hinchcliffe include nursing services and social work services. All students attend music, PE and library classes once a week. Our parents run a get smart with art program that is offered to all students on a regular basis and is very well received by students and teachers.  This is a great way to get involved as a parent!

Hinchcliffe School also provides a variety of services to students who qualify for special education including speech / language, physical therapy, occupational therapy and music therapy.

The Hinchcliffe teachers are expected to keep an open dialogue with parents at all times. Communication is critical to the success of every child, and if you have a question regarding your child and school, please call or e-mail the classroom teacher or myself. We will work with you to answer your questions and provide clarification to any question or concern you may have. If you would rather meet with us personally, please contact the school office to make an appointment. We will be glad to arrange a time to meet with you that is convenient for everyone. Strong community support and dedicated teachers enable us to provide your child with an educational experience that is invaluable.

The staff and I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) this year. We are dedicated to making their educational experience positive and rewarding. Again, Welcome to Hinchcliffe! Go Hawks!
