Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Tom Clark, Jr.
My name is Mr. Clark and I'm super excited to be a part of the great Carriel Junior High faculty here in O'Fallon District 90!
While I'm new to Carriel and the District, I'm definitely not "new" (just a little worn around the edges). I have been a special education teacher serving adults and adolescents who exhibit severe behavioral disorders (BD), emotional disabilities (ED), learning disabilities (LD), and those who are educably mentally handicapped (EMH) for twenty-five years in some of the toughest schools in Southern Illinois.
I have earned two Associate Degrees and a Bachelors Degree in Special Education, with additional endorsements in BD/LD/EMH. I have received comprehensive training in serving adolescents and adults who have been identified as autistic, those who are suffering from Asperger's syndrome, Bi-polar disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome, and Teenage Suicide Prevention. I served in the US Army as a Combat Medic and licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician.
The primary objective of the "ED" class at Carriel is to help students understand how they learn, understand the emotions involved when triggered, and provide alternative strategies that they can effectively use to transition back into the general education setting and to become responsible and productive citizens.
