May - Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to the "Salvatore Cincotta Photography/D90 Teacher of the Month," Mrs. Cheri Buck, EK Interventionist!
“The Buck” doesn’t ever stop at EK School! On your mark, get set, go! This is a great way to describe Cheri Buck’s daily schedule as the K-5 interventionist at EK School. From the moment Cheri Buck enters the building each day, she is ready to follow the rigorous daily schedule along with several other volunteer duties. Between the time of 8:00 to 8:45 am on specific days of the week, Cheri meets with grade level teams of teachers to discuss student progress and/or review student data and other background information with the school psychologist. She also opens her classroom each morning to a few students in need and provides them support and positive encouragement while they enjoy a warm breakfast and then makes sure they have a provided snack for class time. As Cheri transitions into her daily instructional schedule, she works with students in all grade levels in the areas of math and reading along with the support of two additional intervention aides. Her classroom is set up into three mini classrooms as three different lessons take place simultaneously throughout the school day. Cheri spends countless hours each year building a teaching schedule that is effective for all grade levels and reevaluates it to see if even more can be done for the students and staff within the instructional time allotted each day. Cheri took initiative to learn the MAP assessment system and provide leadership to her colleagues on its use and data. Outside of the instructional schedule Cheri follows, she makes it her mission to help out in so many other ways. Cheri provides supervision to bus riders and escorts them onto their assigned busses at the end of each day. Cheri also serves as the chairperson of the very involved EK Family Reading Night held each November, led the Kindergarten Parent Round-up Reading Night last fall, and is a current lead coach with Girl’s on the Run. After hours, Cheri continues to take coursework to become a Literacy Coach even though she already has her master’s degree and reading certification. Clearly she goes above and beyond here in District 90!
District 90 thanks Sal Cincotta and his family for their generous support of our staff recognition program!
