DISTRICT 90 SCHOOLS CELEBRATE COMMENDABLE AND EXEMPLARY DESIGNATIONS

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has released the annual Illinois Report Card at
www.illinoisreportcard.com. The Illinois School Report Cards articulate performance on multiple
indicators of student success for all schools, including academic performance and school quality
measurements.
Multiple measures of performance are used to comprise an annual summative designation,
which describes how well each public school in Illinois meets the needs of learners. The state
identifies five levels of designation–Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted Support,
Comprehensive Support, and Intensive Support.
We are proud to share that all seven of the District 90 schools are designated as Commendable
or Exemplary yet again this year. Exemplary schools are those in the top 10 percent of all
schools in Illinois. They must have no underperforming student groups at or below the “all
students” group of the lowest-performing schools in the state. Commendable schools must also
not have any student groups performing at or below the “all students” group of the lowest
performing 5 percent of schools, but they are not in the top 10 percent of the schools in the
state.
Fulton JH and Kampmeyer Elementary earned the highest, prestigious designation of
Exemplary, while Schaefer Elementary and Evans Elementary came very close to also ranking
within the top ten percent statewide. Carriel JH, Hinchcliffe Elementary, and Moye Elementary
earned the second highest designation in the state by exceeding state averages.
Areas that stand out in this year’s District Report card include:
● In ELA academic proficiency, 61% of all students in District 90 scored at an overall
exemplary or proficient level, compared to the state average of 41.2% of students at
those levels. That is an increase of 21% of D90 students at proficient or above since
2021.
● In Math academic proficiency, 47% of students in District 90 met or exceeded
expectations, compared to the state average of 27.9% proficient. Math scores continue
to improve and are within 3% of our scores pre-Covid.
● Our Science academic proficiency remains high at 74% proficiency among District 90
students, compared to the state average of 53.1% proficient students.
● At the same time, District 90’s chronic absenteeism rate has dropped from 16.5% in
2022 to 10.4%, and remains below the state average of 26.3%
According to ISBE, across the state “the math proficiency rate for grades 3-8 rose again slightly,
showing steady improvement since the pandemic. However, recovery has been slower in math
than in ELA. The overall state-level math proficiency rates increased in every race/ethnicity
group, as well as among English Learners, students with IEPs, and low-income students, but
remained lower than pre-pandemic levels.”
District 90 consistently performs above state averages. “We are very proud of the work of our
students and educators. District 90 uses this annual data to celebrate success and to set goals
for continued improvement,” shared Superintendent Dr. Carrie Hruby. “The data helps us
evaluate programs, collaborate weekly with educators, and select curricular materials. Our
continued success is a result of dedicated students, educators, staff, and parents, as well as the
supportive partnership of a community that values education.”
